DVI connector types
The DVI is Digital Video Interface. A DVI connection can be one of three types DVI-I(DVI-Integrated), DVI-D(DVI-Digital) or DVI-A(DVI-Analog). The DVI connectors that come in single and dual link varieties are DVI-I and DVI-D. The DVI-A is used to carry a DVI signal to an analog display, such as a CRT monitor or budget LCD. The most common use of DVI-A is connecting to a VGA device, since DVI-A and VGA carry the same signal.
The DVI-I connector comes it two types: single link and dual link. Dual link DVI connectors make use of the six middle pins to deliver a higher quality signal. This allows for resolutions greater than 1920×1080. The DVI-I connector is cable if transmitting both analog and digital signals. The analog signal with the DVI-I cable is of better quality and can transmit the signal further than a VGA cable.
- DIV-D
The DIV-D connector comes in two types: single link and dual link. Dual link DIV connectors make use of the six middle pins to deliver a higher quality signal. This allows for resolutions greater than 1920×1080. The DVI-D connectors is capable of transmitting only digital signals..
